5 R’s, reflective Writing Scale
The artist Charlie has created an interesting artwork. Her artwork could be viewed in many different ways, depending on how it is looked at.
Response- Charlie’s artwork is photographs of rings all looped together in different ways. The colours are all neutral, and in each photograph they are looped in a different way.
Responding- Charlie has arranged the rings in a way which is precise and meaningful. The way the rings are looped together is what makes the artwork. I believe she has looped the rings in a particular way to create meaning out of the artwork.
Relating- There could be many meanings to this artwork. My own belief is that Charlie has created this artwork as her own expression of how every part of your life is looped together to make it who you are. One of the loops could represent family, another friends, and another maybe values and beliefs. I believe this artwork represents how these things are linked together to make a person who they are.
Reasoning- By manipulating the elements of art, the artist was able to get the viewers to make their own meaning from her artwork. The elements used, are colour, line, shape and texture. The use of colour is neutral therefore the artist is trying to get the viewer to make their own meaning from the artwork, to bring they’re own colours to the meaning. The line of the artwork is the line outlining the rings. This is a circular line, the use of the circular line was able to show that there could be some meaning held inside the ring. The shape of the artwork is the overall shape when all the rings are looped together, and I believe it gives a sense of parts joining together to make a whole. This helps with the meaning of the artwork, as the main parts to life make the person who they are. The texture of the artwork is a real texture as the rings are photographed, giving the artwork a sense of importance on life. All of these elements have been used by the artist, and they work together to give the meaning to the artwork.
Reconstructing- I believe the artist wanted the viewer to make their own meaning from the artwork, I believe Charlie, wanted them to think about the important parts to their life and relate it back to her artwork. I believe everyone will view this artwork in a different way, and all will have different meanings for it. But I believe it is about the parts of life and linking them all together makes you who you are. By looking at the artwork in depth I was able to thing about the parts to my own life and how they have come together to make me who I am. Looking at my own life I was then able to think about others people and how their life might be different. I was then able to think more deeply about how everyone’s life is different. Everyone has different experiences, values and beliefs. Everyone has different parts to their life, which make it different. I believe this artwork helped me to realise that everyone is unique; their life is made up of different parts of importance then others. As future teachers we need to realise this that, everyone is different, they have been through different experiences, they do have different values and beliefs, and have their own ideas on the way they might see an artwork.
